Fear, uncertainty for undocumented students under Trump administration
Since 2012, many undocumented young people have been protected from the threat of deportation. With a new president, that may change.
As a presidential candidate, Donald Trump promised to end temporary protections for immigrants who arrived in the country as children. Right before the presidential election we profiled we profiled Estefania Navarro, a 22-year-old college student who's one of nearly nearly three-quarters of a million young people in the United States with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The program provides temporary protection from deportation for those who meet certain criteria. Without DACA, people like Navarro face uncertain futures.
"My heart was just heavy," Navarro said of the election results. "I feel like at one point it was hard for my heart to even beat. It felt so defeated."
