Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton announced last week that he wants to cut the amount of required state and federal testing by a third. Dayton joins a growing movement of politicians, students, parents and teachers across the country who are asking state lawmakers to reduce high-stakes testing.

In her new book,“The Test: Why Our Schools are Obsessed with Standardized Testing–But You Don’t Have to Be,” NPR Education Blogger Anya Kamenetz examines the role testing plays in American public education. Kamenetz spoke with ARW correspondent Emily Hanford to talk about why she decided to write about testing.
